A Message from Dr. Marvin Hoffman, MPA Director

Welcome to Appalachian State University's Master of Public Administration Program

Our program enrolls approximately thirty-five students in Boone plus approximately fifteen students in each of the off-campus locations in Winston-Salem and Hickory, N.C. Each year approximately twelve to twenty-five students graduate with our MPA degree. Since the inception of the MPA program in 1989, over 300 individuals have received their MPA degree. We are very proud of the wide array of jobs in local, state, federal government and in not-for-profit agencies that are held by our alumni. With enough effort on your part you can join them as proud holders of our MPA degree. We are very proud of the fact that twenty-five percent of North Carolina's city and county managers received their education in this department.

Appalachian State University recently celebrated the centennial of its founding in 1899. During its first century, Appalachian established a reputation for quality educational programs that meet the needs of this region and of the State of North Carolina. Known for its emphasis on practical problem-solving, Appalachian will challenge you to do your best. However, Appalachian has not grown so large that you will become a number. In our program, mentoring students into professional management careers is what we are all about.
