How did the App State MPA Program prepare you for your current position?
As the Budget Director, I provide information and analysis to county leadership, elected officials, and the community to help inform critical decisions. I work collaboratively with a wide variety of experts from diverse areas of public service. The App State MPA program provided me with a solid understanding of local government to effectively operate within many different arenas and situations.
What do you enjoy most about your field of work?
My work is well balanced between analytical analysis and people interactions. What I like most about my field is the opportunity to bring people together to explore the facts and data around a subject and reach a shared understanding of an issue and the opportunities in the future. I also have a great team and enjoy helping them to develop and grow in their abilities.
What is the best piece of advice you can offer to current or prospective MPA students?
Every day I learn something new. Be interested in learning as many different things as you can about the various aspects of government and the different jobs that people do. Seek to understand their perspective and the expertise that they bring to the work.
